Synopsis

Mozart meets Malkovich meets Casanova: in a nutshell, that is the essence of 'Casanova Variations' by Michael Sturminger, with John Malkovich portraying Casanova. With the visual power of cinema, the intimacy of theatre and the effortlessness of opera music, Giacomo Casanova's story is now being brought to the big screen by Michael Sturminger. And as only one can embody the legendary Venetian with such natural ease, John Malkovich is the obvious choice for the lead role in the film as well as in the theatre. At his side, Veronica Ferres is portraying Elisa. They are supported by top-class singers: Florian Boesch as the second Casanova, Miah Persson as Elisa II, Jonas Kaufmann as Count Branicki and Anna Prohaska as Caterina.
